Sheikh Zayed Mosque
The building and engineering department of FUJAIRAH MUNICIPALITY has recently assumed
supervision over the initial construction work on the Sheikh Zayed mosque project,
undertaken by the Ministry of Public Works. The project is funded by Sheikh Khalifa
Bin Zayed Al Nahian`s gracious grant of 109,5 million dirham, allocated for the
development of the rural areas of the Emirates. The Ministry completed the design
work of the mosque, which is the second largest in the UAE, after Sheikh Zayed mosque
in Abu Dhabi.
Engineer Nawal Yousuf Al Hinaei, chief of the constructions, soil laboratory and
building material inspection department in FUJAIRAH MUNICIPALITY has confirmed that
her department assumed supervision of the project at the end of last May. She announced
the completion of the necessary tests and the inspection phase which included soil
testing, excavations and the foundation reinforcement works. The mosque will be
built in the center of FUJAIRAH city, in an area of 182 thousand, 885 square meters.
She added that the project is a two-story building: an under ground floor comprising
a women praying hall, a multi-purpose hall, separate ladies and gentlemen ablution
facilities, and additional service rooms. The ground floor houses the main prayer
hall. An outer yard is surrounded by four colonnades and topped by 35 small domes.
The most outstanding features of the mosque are the six, 107 meter high minarets,
clad in white marble and rising from each corner of the courtyard.
